The Book of Fear
The ‘Book of Fear’ refers to Septimus Winners original children’s rhyme ‘Ten Little Injuns’. A controversial song that was translated into many languages, often misused within a xenophobic context. Only a year after the original song was published Injuns turned into ‘niggers’ and the rest its history. I exchanged the ‘Ten Little Niggers’ with the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Criminals. Terrorists in children’s books seemed like an appropriate epilogue.
Charles Manson believed in an impending apocalyptic race war and therefor claimed that his murderous acts would help to precipitate this war.
Manson’s cult mysticism seeped its way into popular culture formed and he became the universal icon for insanity and murder just as Osama bin Laden has become the contemporary icon for global terrorism. Yet those two characters are only two of many ‘little terror boys’ portrayed in just another interpretation of this book.
